Better Home Security for Apartments and Renters
Who said that home security systems are just for palace and big houses? At this time, you just can’t afford to be robbed no matter how big or small is the house. Currently, any house is a target for thefts or burglars. All they want is to get anything that would help them gain money or properties.
Even a renter in a small bachelor’s pad or a condominium needs to secure his or her home. And usually, these apartments are situated in the busy city, which means that they are much prone to being run sucked by criminals.
However, since renters may stay on the apartment or condominium for some certain period of time, this makes it hard for renters to get their own home security systems. Usually, home security systems have contract for a certain period of time. So if a renter would transfer to another area, you need to pay the commitment fee should you break the contract.
But good thing is right now, wireless home security systems have dominated the market. All you need to do is buy this product. You can easily find one in the Internet. This allows the renter to bring along with then the home security system should they go and transfer to another place. They don’t even need to worry of breaking some contract and pay more by paying the remaining months of the commitment.
Another thing for renters is that they have a lease agreement. Most often, the owner of the apartment or condominium would not want to have holes or drills in the walls. And that discourage the renters from getting home security systems since these should be installed on the wall. The wirings need to be run inside the walls of the apartment. But of course even renters should have the right to secure their properties.
Right now, there are security systems that you need not drill the walls and cut holes on them. There is heavy duty adhesive that would help in installing these security systems. There would be no markings that would be left in the walls should the renter decides to move to another place. All you have to do is deactivate the alarm and clean up the adhesive. There are even magnets that you can use in installing some sensors.
Here are also some tips for renters to avoid being robbed.
1. Use reliable locks. There are some states that allow tenants to ask for additional locks if he or she finds that the locks on the apartment are not sufficient. Also, having heavy duty locks and bolts would prevent burglars from entering the room.
2. Discourage burglars with lighting. Make sure that the apartment is properly lit if you are at home and more so if you are not home. This always proves to create an illusion that someone is at home.
3. Make use of timers. Just like lighting, this creates the illusion that someone is home. You can never be at home all the time. So if you will be arriving late, you can time the lamp to be switched on during the night. You can also time some appliance in your home like the television. This will discourage burglars during the daytime.
4. Have motion detecting lights. This would work well especially if you have pets around the house. The light will automatically be switched on if a movement is detected inside the house and would be turned off once movements are no longer detected.
5. Buy wind chimes that you can hang on the door entry. This are unique and decorative alarms that would signal you when someone is about to enter the apartment.
Remember, you do not need to have a big house or even a palace just to secure your properties. Even renters can have their own security systems. Knowing that you and your family are safe is everyone’s aim. |
